IShares Cup
The iShares Cup is new and radical: 40 –foot carbon fibre catamarans racing around enclosed stadium race courses at high speeds. Difficult to control, the VX40s are challenging to sail and frequently flip over.
But the best in the sailing game are competing on the 2008 iShares tour. Multiple Olympic medallists, America’s Cup Winners, round the world record holders. They are all taking on the challenge of controlling the immense power of the VX40s catamarans…and taking race off each other.
Around 10 boats from nine nations will compete on the five-event European iShares 2008 tour. Prime venues in Switzerland, France, Germany, Holland and the UK. Where the spectators can almost reach out and touch the boats as they hammer past the dockside, often on the limits of control. It’s fast, it’s exciting, and a spectacular accident is only one false moveaway.
